PSHE & RE

PSHE and RE are taught using the Jigsaw Programme. Both follow a 'spiral' curriculum pattern which is an educational approach where students repeatedly revisit core topics and concepts throughout their schooling. Each subsequent encounter builds on the last, adding new layers of complexity, different applications, and reinforcing prior learning, which deepens understanding over time.

The Jigsaw PSHE philosophy is a "mindful approach to PSHE" that aims to nurture the "whole child" by building positive self-worth, emotional literacy, and social skills in an inclusive and safe learning environment. It is a comprehensive teaching program for ages 3-16 that integrates Personal, Social, Health and Economic education with mindfulness practice.

Jigsaw RE uses an enquiry-based approach to explore philosophy, especially Humanism, alongside world faiths like Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, and Sikhism. The philosophy behind Jigsaw RE centers on child-centered social and emotional learning, critical thinking, and reflective practice to help students develop their own beliefs, values, and identity. It aims to build respect for others and challenge prejudice through lessons that encourage discussion and personal reflection on big questions.
