Phonics

Teaching our children to read is one of the most important things we do. Phonics - a method of teaching reading and writing by connecting letters to sounds - is taught here using the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds scheme from their first week of Reception. Staff are relentless in their pursuit of ensuring that all children are on track to read as soon as possible. Phonics is taught every day in Reception and Year 1, usually in smaller groups to ensure every child is learning the sounds that they need to. In Year 2, children who have completed the programme would usually be taught reading comprehension and spelling strategies. Older children also join groups where necessary.

Little Wandle provides access to videos here to help support parents revise the sounds at home with their children.
